Mario is an athlete

I remember this fairly well from Super Mario World and I still play it because it's just that much fun. Good times on some of those fast paced levels. The piano only effect is very cool too. Nice to see it was you playing this one piano as well. Brings back some good memories and it loops perfectly.

On a side note, whenever I finished a level the little tune playing sounded like a slowed down version of the athletic theme.

McSwainy responds:

Thanks for the kind words. Super Mario World is one of my all time favorite video games. First game I ever owned...and I still have it.

Erratic

The intro seems quite erratic with random sounds playing and it is over the top loud and just erratic for most of the song which makes it seem a bit worse. I would advise taking out the random sounds so it sounds a lot better as well. Since you pretty much did the guitar and then the rest was erratic and not very well done. I would advise retrying the song and getting it to sound closer to the original.

Sorry, nice try though on trying to do the song.

For the record this was made in 2009, and I'm not going to be changing it because that would be impossible plus I pretty much think it sucks too, now anyway. lol.

Sounds cool

I like it started out and gradually builds up into an incredible piece. The way it is retro through and through is brilliant as well. Kind of makes me feel like I am on an adventure actually which is pretty sick as well. The siren feeling sound is great actually, makes me feel like I am escaping someone. All the sounds make me feel retro and as if I was collecting and shooting things.

The overall flow is chilling yet so amazing as well and I love it. Great job on this piece.

The breakdown was amazing.

Overall, kind of reminds me of Scott Pilgrim and TMNT the game, great job.

Hey SCTE3 :)
THanks for your review. Anyhow, i don't know exactly what you mean by siren sound. I geuss one of the slidey synths? Well i never planned that this song would mean anything or feel like anything. I just had loads of fun making it and that's it :P. But still thanks for saying that it sounds retro.

Hmm, i've never seen Scott Pilgrim before nor played TMNT the game. Maybe i should look into those.

Casual

Sounds very close to the original but more chilled and relaxing sounding. The bass sounds incredibly soft and the synth sounds cool I guess. The bell sounds good to me as well. Brings back some good memories of Star Fox 64 and Super Smash Bros. Melee on the Corneria stage.

The flow seems to go along smoothly and feels nice as well. The piano makes the song sound a bit more lively. I could see this as credit music in a game or a menu song for an indie game in space I guess. Aside from all said, this is a chilling and a good memory bringer.

Overall, very nice work on this.

Great; as long as I keep the nostalgia flowin', it's all good.

Thanks for reviewing!

Cheery Pokemon

Getting a real feel that this could be a Pokemon Center or shop song in one of the Pokemon games. The piano sounds really uplifting and slightly fast at the same time. Add another key at the end and it could be a perfect loop as well. The cheery uprising tone of the piano is nice and could also be used as a ballroom dance song as well.

Kind of makes me feel happy actually, very nice little loop you did here.

Good game, good mix

I remember I use to play that game and Super Mario World all the time. This theme is great actually. Think you could try the Fire Fields theme next? The guitar solo is incredible as well. The keyboard sounds very nice to me as well. This is good.

The flow is wicked and comes as close to the original as possible as well. The way the song ends out though is just a good nostalgic remix and ear candy/ Nice job on this.

You're in luck! Fire Field is actually on my to-do list after some Final Fantasy and Zelda pieces.

Impressive

Really has a latin beach feel to it. The drums sound cool and make me think 8-bit as well. What stringed instrument is that by the way since it sounds nice? Has a real beach feeling to it. Could possibly see it being used in a game where you are in a urban/beach type area looking for something or just talking it up with friends.

The piano sounds good and I guess would take place of a guitar in this song as it sounds nice to me. the stringed instruments sound nice and I like the wind instruments playing as well. They seem to be pretty good. If you were to improve I guess you could simply make it a bit longer and that's about all you could do with it really.

Overall, this sounds really pleasing to the ears actually. Nice job on this. Good luck as you continue on in the contest.

Thanks for the review!

This is actually not latin music, I posted it in latin because it's the category that I think relates to exotic folklore, as this is middle-eastern folklore.

There actually is no piano in this music, but I hear now that there could be confusion with the lute, as the MIDI sounds are too crappy to be discernable...

The length issue is due to the limit given by NeonProject, director of the competition, who set the bar at 3 to 4 minutes.

Anyways, thanks again for the review!

Sounds alright

Kind of makes me think of Earthbound a little bit where he is in his mind activating the last sanctuary. The piano sounds nice as well. The slight build up sounds are good. The drums and other sounds are cool as well. Like the electro bass kicks a lot sicne they give it some life and the synth sounds cool.

The synth reminds me of leitmotifs a lot as well. The ush ush ush beat I hear is pretty cool I I guess. The flow of the beat kind of just feels sad for some reason, not sure why though. The feelings I get from this song are also kind of mixed as well, kind of like shock, awe, sadness, and a slight bit of happiness in there as well.

Overall, this is a pretty good tune. Even if it is a test tune it still sounds nice.

Very chillaxing

The intro is just clicks and then it turns into a full out frosty milkshake kind of song. It just has a really fast paced feel to it. I could see it in a snow level for a flash game where there is a segment based on snow and mountains and that such. The drum n bass sounds simplistic yet beastly actually.

The fast paced sound makes the song really fast sounding and the keyboard makes it sound very nice actually. The way the song seems to keep going fast makes you feel kind of edgy and like you have to get something done quickly or something bad could happen.

The chorus and rhythm that starts around 2:41 is very soothing and a change of pace as well. The song starts to build back up slowly and goes back to feeling fast paced with a keyboard sounding solo as well which was cool. This is a great song you have made.

Overall, fast paced and frosty, very good song. Looking forward to more in the future as well.

Haha that's awesome :) It would be so cool if this was used in a Flash Game :D

Sweet, glad to hear it gets you pumped :D

Thanks man, we were tried to get as much variation in as possible, and I guess it worked :D

Glad you liked this man, and we might do another collab, who knows :P

Cool

Nice to see it in the top 5 as well. The way it flows is great. The title does describe it well actually. It has a frosty winter feel to it. The rhythm is cool as well. Sounds kind of like it would be a soft rock piece when just the synth is playing and the overall sound is calming as well. Piano is really got a beat to it.

For the most part the way it sounds a bit like a hip hop song with the drums is cool I guess. The overall beat though is just nice and cold as well. Some parts make me think of the band "The Immortals" as well. This is a blissful and peaceful song. Nice work on this.

Good luck on future pieces.
